Keynote Session - "Teach This, Not That! Rethinking Kindergarten Readiness"

  1. List the 3 key areas of development for kindergarten readiness
  2. Identify 3 strategies for including self-regulation in the daily routine
  3. Define 21st Century Skills

Session 1 - "Ready, Set, Read! What Comes First?"

  1. Define Visual Discrimination
  2. List 3 or more ways to support the development of visual discrimination skills
  3. Identify and list the sequence of letter matching skills

Session 2 - "Unlock the Hidden Power of Vocabulary!"

  1. List 3 ways that vocabulary
  2. Identify and describe at least 3 ways vocabulary development can be supported in the classroom.
  3. Name and apply at least 1 new vocabulary strategy in the classroom

INFANTS AND TODDLERS (3 months-36 months)

Training Description:  In this session, Participants will explore how to facilitate language development and communication in infants and toddlers.  Ten strategies for facilitating early language development and communication will be discussed.  Throughout the session, emphasis is placed on making children’s experiences with language positive and engaging in the context of nurturing relationships.

Key concepts addressed include:


Session 3,
1:15pm to 2:30pm - Session 3: 5 Essential Steps to a Peaceful Classroom 
  • INFANTS are active learnings of language
  • Children need adults to provide them with rich experiences with language
  • Language development varies individually and culturally
Session 4  2:45pm to 4:00pm - Session 4: 5 Essential Steps Lessons Ideas
  • Infants learn language in the context of relationships
  • 10 Strategies to Enhance Language Development (Early Messages)
  • Positive experiences or activities to support the strategies presented incorporating “Baby Doll Circle Time”


PRESCHOOL (3,4 and 5 year olds)

Session 3 - "Tranquil Transitions"

  1. List 2 reasons why transitions are an important of the daily routine.
  2. Determine how many transitions occur in the classroom daily
  3. Name and apply at least 1 new transition strategy in the classroom

Session 4 - "Mysteries of Math Revealed!"

  1. Define one-to-one correspondence
  2. List 3 or more ways to support the development of 1:1 skills in the classroom
  3. Determine the importance (or lack thereof) of numeral identification in the counting process

AFTER SCHOOL AGE

Session 3 Games: Exploring the Why, What, and How
Session 4 Picturing the Gospel: Sharing the Good News in Tangible Ways

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will gain confidence in implementing games into their after school programs
  • Participants will be able to create an atmosphere where students can hear the Gospel
  • Participants will have a clearer focus of the intentionality behind having fun in their programs
